A Christmas Carol: 5C Reading

Mr. Scrooge is often called a miser. What evidence does Dickens provide to prove that Scrooge is a miser. Click on this link to see the definition of a miser http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/miser. Think of the very first scene where it is Scrooge, Bob Crachit, and Scrooge's Nephew. Remember to write 5th grade sentences with proper grammar and punctuation. I will be giving you a grade under reading for this. This will be due on Friday. I will give you some class time to complete this.

  2. Ebenezer Scrooge is called a miser because he is a very mean, stingy, cruel, nasty, greedy, and miserable person.

EXAMPLE:He is the kind of person that is never generous and doesn't even know what generosity means. In the first scene where Bob Crachit was really cold and scrooge was a miser because he wasn't nice enough to turn on the heater. He said that it was a waist of money. The only thing scrooge cares about is saving money.

  3. Scrooge is called a miser because he is an unhappy, stingy man. He is not a fun person to be around. He was not kind to his worker Bob Crachit who was cold in the office, he would not turn up the heat. To his nephew, Scrooge was unkind and told him Christmas is a lie, an excuse not to have to go to work. His nephew was trying to tell him the real meaning of Christmas, but Scrooge would not listen. Scrooge did not understand the meaning of Christmas and did not want to go to his nephews home to celebrate and have dinner.

  6. I think scrooge is a miser because in our play in the first scene Bob is talking about how he wont turn on the heat because he says its a waste of money. Also he did not like Christmas because he says that its just were he wastes money on gifts. Also because he changed when all the ghosts took him to the past where he changes and becomes generous. Thats t how I think he is a miser. From. Noah

  14. He was a miser until he realized the value of human beings. I wonder if any of the students know about a "real life" miser, named Hettie Green, who lived right across the river in Bellows Falls, VT. She was called the Witch of Wall Street. Can any of our students find out about this amazing woman?
