Explorer Project

Now that we have finished the explorer project, I would like to hear about what your thoughts were about this project. Did you find it fun? What did you like and dislike about the project? Did you learn a lot about your explorer? Tell me as much as you can about the project. I will count this as a Social Studies grade. Please make sure you write 5th grade sentences. Put a lot of thought and effort into this. I want you to be honest about this project. This will be due by Friday, December 9.

  2. I had sooooooooo much fun doing my project for social studies. My person was Leif Ericsson. I think that I got a lot of interesting facts. I like all of the cool pictures. I am really surprised at how many facts that I found online and in books. I really wanted to do a viking so James really helped me on that. It was hard remembering all of the facts. Once I practiced more I really got the facts down. I found a lot of pictures and I didn't think it would fit on the poster. I wrote 4 pages of my rough draft. This was a fun project and I want to do it again! It was awesome working on this project and I love everybody's too.Everybody did a great job on their project. Doing this project on Leif Ericsson was the first project that I have ever worked thos hard on.

  3. I thought the explorer project was really fun! I liked researching and writing about Juan Ponce de Leon. He was brave and tough. He discovered great things like Florida!

At first, I was considering researching Christopher Carson, but when I read about Juan Ponce de Leon and how he went searching for the fountain of youth, I wanted to use him for my social studies project. In Pirates of the Caribbean, they go searching for the Fountain of Youth and I wanted to learn about this interesting phenomenon!

I thought the hardest part of the process was writing the rough draft. I needed to decide what information to use and organize it into paragraphs that best tell the story about my explorer. The easiest part was probably creating the poster. I was especially proud of my detailed drawing of a Spanish ship.

I practiced a lot for my oral presentation. It was helpful to use my family as an audience. In the end, I was well prepared and gave a thorough presentation on the courageous Juan Ponce de Leon.

    Sincerely,
    Hunter Oberst

  4. I enjoyed doing the explorer research project very much. My explorer was Christopher Columbus. I learned many interesting facts about him. He was a brave and courageous man. I enjoyed all parts of the research project, but my favorite was drawing the map of his travels. I hope we can do more research projects. Thankyou, Mr. C. for making learning so much fun! I am really enjoying fifth grade. Sincerely, Jonathan Clark

  6. I really like this project Mr. C! My explorer was Hernando Cortes. I like that he discovered a city in California, which is the state I was born in. The city is named Baja. I did not like writing the rough draft. I thought the project was fun.

I found it interesting to learn about Francisco Coronado. I liked using the internet to find interesting facts about him. What I didn't like was that I got nervous during my presentation.

I learned all kinds of facts about Francisco Coronado. I am glad I chose him because I now know who discovered the Grand Canyon and who failed to find gold for his country.

    Your Friend,

  15. Dear Mr. C,
Social Studies is not my favorite subject. What I like about the project was the presentation. I like how were listening and paying attention during my presentation. I found that Prince Henry was not as interesting as I first thought it was going to be. There wasn't a lot of fun and exciting information about him. Other than that, I am looking forward to doing another project.
