Yellow Star

Today in class, I started to read Yellow Star, by Jennifer Roy. It is a story about a young girl who survives WWII. She and her family were taken from their home and moved to a small Jewish population in Lodz, Poland. That small area was called the ghetto. I would like for you to talk about Syvia and her living conditions? How has her families lives changed? I would like for you to give examples and write in complete sentences. I would like at least five fifth grade sentences. Make sure you check for spelling and punctuation mistakes. This will be a grade under Social Studies.

  1. Syvia and her family went through many changes in life. They had to move to a small jewish population. The jews wouldn't get as much food as they used to. They only get brown bread 3 times a day. The bathrooms were really small and you had to share them with everyone there. Soon they put up barbed wire fences. Syvia was scared of the fences because one child got shot because he gave one of the guards a dirty look. whenever a jewish person left their home, they would always have to where a golden star on their clothing or else they would be arrested on the spot. Syvia and her family went through a lot of changes through their new and terrible life

  2. Dear Mr.C
This is about a book called Yellow Star. It is about a little girl who gets moved out of her home to a place called, The Ghetto. While there in there, the living conditions get much much worse. There is a public bathroom that everyone shares, rotten food and only 1,000 calories a day. Unlike at there other home. The worse pat is her father doesn't have a good job. Also many people are dying for no reason. so that is some bad stuff that happened.

    sincerely, Collin

  4. Sylvia and her family were brought to a small apartment. Sylvia's life change, when she needs to go to the bathroom it's just a little shack that has a toilet but at her old house it was just her and her family using it. But now it is other folks using it. It's really sad because Sylvia's Mom said " your a big girl, your 6" But the sad part is Sylvia didn't know she was 6. Where they were brought to only had two room. One was a family room and the kitchen. But if they did need to go to the bathroom it was outside. The reason they were in a small apartment away from there house was because they were Jewish. That is some things Mr.Cassarino read to us.

  6. Sylvia and her family were Jewish. They were in danger where they were living because of the Nazis. They had to leave their nice home, and move to the ghetto. Here they had a small place to live where they had to share a bathroom. Sylvia could no longer go to school. The way they ate had to change because they didnt have as many food choices. A boy tried to get out but he got shot.

  7. Dear Mr.C
Sylvia's life changed because she used to have a bathroom that was pretty big and her dad had a decent job. Then she was taken away from her own home and moved into a small apartment building with alot of people. The bathroom there was a really small shack and she had a big coat on with layers that she had to take off. They only ate brown bread, sometimes they had soup with it.Her Sister,Mom, and dad had to go to work every day so Sylvia had to go down the hall and stay with a neighbor.

  8. Sylvia's life has changed a lot. When she went to go use the bathroom, it was a little shack that was really dark. She probably felt clostrophobic. She had an apartment with 2 rooms. One was proably a kitchen, the other was probably the bedroom. That is really small! They don't have a lot of food either! It's really nasty that she has to eat rotten food.Whenever any of the jews left the place they would have to wear a jacket with a yellow star on it. Syvia said that she wanted to rip the star off without ruining her jacket.

  9. Hi Mr.C. Sylvia's life changes a lot in a couple of days. First she is living happily in her nice size house with her happy family. Then all of a sudden she has to move into a two room apartment. The two room apartment is part of a ghetto. Also she has to go to an outhouse to go the bathroom. Plus she only gets scraps of food from family and neighbors. Also the they found particals and tiny pieces of glass. she learns that she was six she didn't even now that her sixth birthday was a week ago. Can you imagine living like this because you were jewish or because you wore a yellow star on your clothes? Thats how Sylvia's life cahnges in a couple of days.

    LOVE,Elissa B.

  12. The book is called Yellow Star. The main characters named Sylvia. She lives with her parents and her sister Dora. They lived in Poland before World War Two started. After the war had started, they went to Warsaw,Poland in search of safty. The family arrived in Warsaw, but they did not find safty. The ride there in the horse-drawn carriage was freezing, but the ride back was even worst. As soon as they got back they found out that the Natzi`s had taken over their town. They are now living in a ghotto. Food is scarse for the family and everone else. Every person is only allowed 1,000 caleries a day. The only thing they eat is brown bread plus they only have two rooms in appartment. Sylvia`s life style has changed a lot!

Sylvia's life has changed because she always had her own home. She and her family were brought to a little apartment because her and her family were jewish. The apartment was very small. She had two rooms, a family room and kitchen.

Sylvia and her family's life changed also because she saw German soldiers killing people. Also, a boy looked at a German soldier funny and the German soldier killed him.

  14. The Germans made Syvia's life worse by forcing them to live in a ghetto. Also, her family has to eat brown bread every day. They don't have their own bathroom and if they go over the barb wire fence or under, they will get shot. Their new house only has two rooms in it. In the winter it is worse because they have no heat during the day and night. I hope later on in time that nobody has to go through this again.-James

Silvia would also get alot more food than she gets now but that all changed when she moved to the ghetto.
