Factor Tree

For the past few math lessons, we have been learning about prime and composite numbers. In your own words, I would like for you to tell me what prime and composite numbers are. Please don't copy the definition down. I really want to see what you think they mean using your own words. And finally, I would like for you to tell me what the purpose of a factor tree is. Why do we use them and what do they tell us? I am not going to tell you how many sentences you need to write, but they need to be detailed sentences that get answers all of the questions. Please write 5th grade sentences. You will be graded on your answers, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and how much thought and detail you put into your answers. This is due Friday morning, not later than 8:20 am.

  1. A prime number is a number with only two factors 1 and itself. For example the number 5 is a prime number because it's factors are 5 and 1. A composite number is a number that has more than 2 factors. For example the number 10 is a composite number because it's factors are 1,2,5,10. The purpose of a factor tree is to find out what the factors of a certain number is. For example if I did a factor tree of 460 I am doing that to find out what the factors of 460 are. NGM

  2. A prime number only has two factors that are, one and itself. A composite number is a number that has more factors than one and itself. The purpose of factor trees are to learn how to divide numbers into factors, and then simplify you factors. You also learn how to do x-ponents. Factor trees tell us prime and composite numbers and also tell us factors of that number.

  3. A prime number is a number with the factors of one and itself. Example 7=1x7 and that is all you can do -no more factors.A composite number is a number with more than two factors. Example 12=1x12,3x4,2x6 and thats all you can do. The purpose of a factor tree is it's supposed to help you find out the factors of numbers, help you learn your multiplication and division, and just to have fun.NS

  4. A prime numbers with 2 or 1 factor plus 1 itself. A composite number is a number that has 2 and up factors.A factor tree is trying to find the factor of that number.

  5. A prime is a number that has two factors 0ne and it's self.Like 2 is a prime number because it's factors are two and one.
A composite number has 2 or more factors.Ten is a composite number because it has more then two factors it has 1,2,5,10.

  7. Prime numbers are numbers that have 2 factors, 1 and itself. An example of a prime number is 3 and its factors are 1 and 3. A composite number is a number that has more than 2 factors. An example is 8 and its factors are 1, 2, 4,and 8. A factor tree is a way of coming up with factors for any number. If I made a factor tree for 348, I would be able to find out the factors of 348.

  8. A prime number is a number with 2 factors, some examples of prime numbers are 2,3,5,7,11 and a lot more. All prime numbers have factors of 1 and itself. A composite number has more than 2 factors. All even numbers except for 2 are prime. 2 is not a composite number because it's only one over one so it's only multiplacation sentence is 1 times 2. 9. PRIME: A prime number is a number that only has one factor 1 and itself. 37 is a prime number because the factors are 1,37.
COMPOSITE: a composite number is a number that has more than 1 factor. 21 is composite because the factors are 1,3,7,21.

  10. A prime number is a number that you can only multiply the number by one and itself, for example:3=1x3.Those are the only factors of three.A composite number is a number that has more factors than one and itself for example nine is composite because it has more than one factor. The factors of nine are 1,3,9.A factor tree is a chart that helps you find the prime and composite factors of any number

  11. Dillon again! A factor tree is a tool in math that will help find factors of 678 and 4,908 and just about every other number in the WORLD! It can also help find prime and composite numbers. Ooops! Forgot my last name!

  12. A prime number is a number that only can be multiplied by one and itself. A composite number is a number that can be multiplied by more than two numbers. A factor tree is a way to determine the factors of any certain number and it's prime and composite factors.

  13. A prime number is a number is only one and itself like 2 times 1. 2 is the only even number that is a prime number.

A composite number is many numbers that can fit into it like 10 is composite because 10 times 1 and 5 times 2 equal 10.

The purpose of a factor tree is to get all break down all the composite numbers into prime numbers

    Example
    44 Jimmy Ronning
    4 x 11
    2 x 2

When finished with my factor tree, I get all the prime factors of 44 = 2, 2, 11

  14. a prime number is a number that you can only multiple that number and itselfEXAMPLE:5=1x5 a compositnumber is a nuber has more than 2 factorsEXAMPLE:8=2x4or8=1x8 a factor tree is to help make it esayer

  15. A prime number is a number with two factors, itself and one. Seven is a prime number because there are no other numbers that will equal seven besides one and seven.

A composite number is a number that has more than two factors. Eight is a composite number because it has more than two factors which are 1, 2, 4, and 8.

A factor tree is used to show all of the prime numbers of a larger number.

  16. A prime number is a number with 2 factors, 1 and itself.A composite number is a number with more than 1 factor, 1 itself and more.
EXAMPLE: 12=1x12 3x4 2x6 composite. EXAMPLE: 17=1x17 prime.A factor tree helps people by figuring out the factors of large numbers.

  17. A prime number is a number that only multiplies by 1 and its self. For example 5x1=5. A composite number is a number that has more than one factor. For example 17,4,6,8,10 are all composite numbers. A factor tree is a chart that helps people find the factors of numbers.

  18. A prime number has exactly two factors, itself and one. A composite number has more than two factors like 24 has 1x24, 2x12,3x8, 4x6.
A factor tree shows how many numbers there are that can be multiplied to get the same number.
