Civil War

I hope you enjoyed the play. I would like for you to explain the meaning of the play to me. What was it about and what were some of the events that occurred? Make sure you write 5th grade sentences. You need to have 5-8 sentences. Make sure you proof read your work. Make sure you check for spelling mistakes, punctuation, and grammar. I will not post your response if there are multiple mistakes.

  1. The meaning of the play was the how bad the Civil War was. This time in history there was slavery and if the slave did not do what the Master said they would be serverely punished. Some of the events in the play were the battle of Antedum and some of the tactics that occurred. They also talked about different people on each side of the war like brother against brother. My favorite part was when the girl dressed up as a soldier to fight for what she thought was right. Jimmy R

  3. The meaning of the Civil War play is to explain what the Civil War was and why it's important. The Union witch was the North was fighting against slavery. The Confederacy witch was the South was fighting to still have slavery. The Union was headquartered in Washington, D.C. The Confederacy was headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. The Union tried several attacks on Richmond, but they were being defeated because the Confederacy had too many men. In the end the Union won and slavery ended.

  4. This play was about slavery and the war between the North and South. Abraham Lincoln became the president during this war. There were two brothers on different sides fighting against each other. They didn't want to hurt each other so they backed off. Zack, Will's brother shot a soldier on Will's side.

  5. The Civil War was caused by slavery. Slaves masters would hunt them down if they escaped, and would severely punish them by whipping. As more slaves escaped, the more tensions grew between the North and the South. Finally, the Civil War broke out. There was bloody fighting between them, one of the bloodiest in American history. Then the North started to pull ahead of the South, and then came the surrender of Richmond, Virginia, the capital of the South. After going through many comanders and many a lost battle, Comander Ulysses S. Grant that finally took over Richmond. After the Union won, everything went back to normal in a matter of years.

  6. I really enjoyed the play that we went to at the colonial theater. The meaning of this play was to teach kid our ages about the civil war and what happened back then when the war was going on.In the play Jackie was pretending to be a boy so she could join the war. During the play I was sad for all the people that had to be in the war because the people that went to war didn't get to see their family for the time the time that they were in the war. After all the play was the best play I have ever seen and I liked it because it was all about the civil war.

  7. I had a great time at the Colonial Theater and the reenactment of the civil war was great! I think it was perfect for kids our age. There was this girl named Jackie Dawson and her brother Sirus and her husband went to war and she wanted to go to but girls weren't allowed in those times so she snuck in as a boy wearing boys clothes. She became the new drummer boy and was supposed to teach the men how to learn the signals. There was also a boy named Zach but no one would let him in because he was black. The Civil War was a war between the North and the South and it started in April 12,1861 and ended on april 9,1865. I wish you could have come. I knew you would probably have loved it.

  8. The play and reenactment of the Civil war was really fun to watch. It taught me a lot about the war. It all started when Abraham Lincoln became president and nobody was happy about him being president. The war was about two brothers fighting each other, Will and Zach. There was also a girl named Jackie Dawson who wanted to be a soldier but she couldn't because girls weren't permitted to fight. She dressed as a boy to go to war but they said she could only be a drummer boy at first teaching signals to all the soldiers. She finally did make it to being a soldier. Zach couldn't be a soldier at first because of his skin color, but then he did. This story taught me a lot of Civil war facts!

Zach couldn't join because the color of his skin. Over all the play was good.

  11. Tuesday February 12 we went to the Colonial Theater and saw a reenactment of the Civil War. The show was very interesting. It was about both sides of the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln became president he tried to stop slavery. Not much people liked him at first so they started a war. Many families went into the war. One family a son went in his name Was Cirus his sister Jackie Dawson didn't want him to go. So she went and cut her hair off went to the sign up place and joined the army. She passed her self of as Jack E. Dawson. She became a drummer boy. Another family Zach and Will. Zach was a slave he escaped. At first they didn't let Zach join because he was black. Will joined the war so did Zach. Zack was on the other side as Will. When Jackie was in the war she saw Cirus die she was very sad. That reenactment taught me a lot. It was very good.

Her name is Jackie Dawson.Later on Jackie was about to walk away from the soldier
, but realized it was her brother Will. Then the boy how taught Jackie how to play drums before she was a soldier, found her. She said walk away, but he got her to leave him behind. That is what the play was all about.

  13. The play was fun and very exciting. The play started out by brother versus brother and then the brothers headed off to war. But Zach couldn't go to war because he was a slave. When Abraham Lincoln was president no one like him. While the brothers were at war their sister, Jackie, wanted to be in the war but, couldn't because she was a girl. The only thing she could do to get in the war was to dress like one of the brothers and be a drummer boy. Then Zach could finally get in the war. Sadly one of the brothers died in war. The civil war ended April 9, 1865. This play taught me a lot about the civil war.

  14. I really enjoyed watching the play and reenactment on the Civil War. It starts when Abraham Lincoln is president and no one really likes him. The North and the South were fighting over slavery. The North wanted to end slavery but the South thought it was fair. It was brother and brother, neck and neck. There was one girl that wanted to be a soldier although she couldn't because of her gender. She chopped her hair and became a drummer boy. The start of the end of the war was at Gettysburg. The North won which was a happy time for them. In the end, the North won overcoming slavery and making it one big country. I learned a lot about the Civil War and I'll really remember what I've learned.

  15. The reenactment was about what people were going through and how they dealed with it for the duration of the Civil War. Will was a white boy who had a black friend, Zach, Will's father made Zach his slave. Will was supposed to kill Zach when Zach tried to run away, Will let Zach go and when Zach got to the north he wanted to be a soldier but he wasn't allowed to be a soldier. Also, A couple moved to america, from a country that I can't remember. One girl's brother, from the South went to war and the girl wanted to go too, but ladies weren't allowed to go to war, so she dressed up as a boy soldier and went to a recruit center to sign up. They all fought, some died, but, the Union won! It was a great reenactment! I want to see it again!
