Grafton Museum

Although the trip was a little cold, I know our class had a great time! We were able to explore four different types of habitats that animals live in. We collected as many as we could and then we observed and analyzed our data. It was great! I would like for you to tell me which of the four habitats was your favorite to explore. Please include details and examples from the trip. Please remember to type 5th grade sentences, which means five to eight sentences. Do your best work and have fun. I am very excited to see what your favorite habitat to explore was.

The Grafton trip that we went on yesterday and today was my favorite field trip this year! I loved exploring all of the four habitats, but the pond was my favorite. The time we went to the pond it was warm, and we got to catch a lot of salamanders. The pond was much different from the vernal pool, you could see everything in the water much clearer. I really enjoyed making our hypothesis and then using our data to find out our actual answer. I really liked going there and would like to back!

Hi Mr.C! It was really cold on Monday, but it was a little warmer today(Tuesday). I had an awesome time. We visited a lot of interesting places like the forest, the meadow, the pond, and the vernal pool. My favorite place was the pond. We caught a ton of salamanders, a beetle, a bunch of water bugs, and a head of a dead fish. We caught salamander eggs in the vernal pool. I hope we can go there sometime again.

  5. My favorite habitat was the pond. The pond was so much fun! Miss. Lake let me borrow her rain boots. The boots were a little big but they were just fine. I went a little to deep in the pond because water spilled into the boots. I had wet feet and wet pants! I found a dragon fly nymth and lots of salamanders. I had a good time the rest of the day even when I was wet. - Abby

  7. The Grafton trip was awesome. My favorite place was the pond, because we caught a big frog and Jimmy named him Joe. The cool thing about the vernal pool was that we saw a little newt. It was as big as my thumb. The best find was a big spider with a big egg sack behind her. The Grafton trip was the best trip we had this year!

  8. The Grafton trip was really fun. I liked the forest because we got to dig alot and found a bee. My favorite part was the pond because I think it was Jimmy that found a huge bull frog. Natalie saw a frog she tried to get it but she fell so I feel bad for her. Dillons group found a huge tadpole and that was cool. I didn't know that tadpoles could get that big. I didn't like the meadow because I do not like tics or spiders. I kinda liked the vernal pool but someone got a leach and I did not like that. I really liked the Grafton trip so I hope I can go there agian!!

  9. My favorite part of the trip was being at the pond habitat where I caught a giant bullfrog. I named him Joe. I enjoyed learning about this habitat the most because we got to see most of the animals that everyone caught. Some students caught salamanders, a dead fish, giant bullfrog tadpoles, water skimmers, and a variety of other bugs, or water creatures. The best part of the trip was being able to conduct an experiment with my friends and prove our class hypothesis. We all learned a lot. I liked the teachers a lot. I like them because were very knowlegeable and patient. They explained everything to us so we would learn about our environment. I hope to go back to Grafton again and participate in other programs. $Jimmy

  11. Hi Mr.C! I had a great time at Grafton and would like to go back next year! This was by far my favorite field trip! Since we visited four different natural communities (forest, meadow, pond, and vernal pool) my favorite was the pond! I liked the pond because we caught a lot of cool animals such as the salamanders, the tadpoles, the beetles, and my favorite Joe the bullfrog! I also had a disappointment during the field trip- getting stinging nettles in my leg while trying to catch a frog! Overall it was an amazing experience and the museum was really fun! This was awesome!!!!!!!

  13. My favorite habitat was the forest. I liked the forest because I chose a great spot. Kailey and I found a hole in a tree made by a Piligated Woodpecker. I was surprised when Mr. McAllister's group found a wasp and a sinkhole! The forest also turned out to be the most diverse.

  14. The Grafton trip that we took was great. I had so much fun exploring the natural communities and the animals' habitats. I loved them all in different ways but my favorite was the pond. I enjoyed the pond because there were several different animals that you could collect. We found salamanders, a frog, a dead fish and there were others. The pond and vernal pool were different in many ways. With the vernal pool, animals were buried deeply in leaves and muck and mud. At the pond, everything was open and you could see animals without being in the water. The meadow and forest were both great to discover. We found several insects and bugs. Another great piece of the field trip was making hypothesis about population and diversity. Some of mine were correct and some were a little off. I hope to visit the museum again.

  15. Hey Mr.C!
I had a great time learning about natural communities and want to do it again! My favorite part of the trip was Tuesday. My favorite part of Tuesday was the pond. Elijah, Camden, and I was my group. It was a lot of fun doing the experiments with them. At the pond we caught about 17 salamanders, 3 water striders, 2 leaches(in witch Camden picked up.[:O!]), 1 water spider, 1 HUGE tadpole with its tiny legs already coming out, and my favorite, Finny the fish! Camden said Finny was a mino?

  16. I had alot of fun on the field trip. My favorite habitat was the vernal pool. This was my favorite because we could actually get in the pool if we had boots on, which I did. I found a cytus fly and I also found two wood frog tadpoles which were really cool. My boots were very high but they werent high enough to go in the deep end. So when I tried to go in the deep end the water got in my boots. Good thing my mom packed me extra socks! It was a great two days and I wish we could go again!

  17. The Grafton Museum was my favorite field trip this year!My favorite habitat was the vernal pool. The vernal pool had things I could not find at the pond. At the vernol pool I found salamander eggs. It was my first time ever.I liked looking at the catasfly that my partners collected. And we found a most mysterious red, hair thin worm. The Grafton Museum is my favorite field trip, it rocks!

  18. I loved the field trip and I really hope to do it again in sixth grade. My favorite part was looking at the vernal pools since we got such a large space to work with. The digging was very fun because we got to get down and dirty. The only part that was creepy was when we caught a huge mother spider. Blehhhh. Overall, I think it was awesome and is one of my favorite museums.

I loved the Grafton Field trip it was my favorite this year. I was only there for one day but when I was there it was fun. In the woods I enjoyed digging and looking for small creatures and listening for the birds. In the fields I liked the sweep netting. I didn't catch much. The huge spider Natalie caught was pretty scary. Looking through the museum was also fun. That field trip rocked!
