Order of Operations (PEMDAS)

You just learned about how to solve Order of Operations, but your friend was sick today. I would like for you to explain to them how to solve this math problem. 22 - 3 x 5 + 2 = ? Teach your friend the proper steps on how to solve this problem. I encourage you to use your notes that we took today in class. Explain what PEMDAS is and any other rules that we discussed in class. Make sure you have at least five 5th grade sentences. Check over your spelling and grammar as well. If there are a lot of mistakes or you didn't do a very good job of explaining the proper steps, I will not post the your response. Have fun and make sure you save your response before you post it.

  1. I would write a list of directions for my friend.
    P—Parenthesis
    E—Exponents ---(2 to the second power is 2 X 2= 4)
    M—Multiply…..from left to right
    D—Divide….from left to right
    A—Add from left to right
    S---Subtract from left to right.

    To do this problem:
    1. Multiply or divide from left to right. So, you would multiply 3 X5 =15.
    2. I would then subtact 22 – 15 = 7
    3. Then you add 7 +2 = 9.

    The answer is 9. ~Mary

  2. 22 - 3 x 5 + 2 = ?
    PEMDAS is parenthesis, exponents, multiply, divide, add & subtract. You always do parenthesis first, then exponents, next multiply or divide from left to right and finally add or subtract from left to right. To answer this problem what you need to do first is multiply from left to right 3 x 5 = 15. Next you need to subtract 22 - 15 = 7. Finally you add 7 + 2 = 9. The answer is 9.

  3. P-parenthesis ( )

    E-exponents x2

    M- multiplication x

    D- division

    A-addition +

    S-subtraction -

    If you only have multiplication and division you go from left to right

    If you only have addition and subtraction left you go from left to right

    The steps to do this problem is:

    1)multiply 3 and 5 =15

    2)subtract 22 and 15 =7

    3)add seven plus two

    22 - 3 x 5 + 2 =
    22 - 15 + 2 =
    7 + 2 =
    9

  4. 1) first you have to know about what PEMDAS stands for. The P stands for parentheses ex. ( ), The E stands for exponents ex. x4, The M stands for multiplying ex. x, the D stands for division, the A stands for adding, and finally the S stands for subtracting. 2)The second thing you have to know is that if there is either adding and subtracting or dividing and multiplying left than you have to go from left to right. Otherwise you just go strait down the line and follow the rules of PEMDAS! Okay now we can start to do this problem. here are the steps...

    1) 3x5=15

    2) 22-15=7

    3) 7+2=9

    4)9 is the answer

  5. This is how you would solve 22 - 3 x 5 + 2 and PEMDAS.

    P ()

    E x2

    M x

    D %

    A +

    S -

    If only the multiplication and division are left then do them from left to right .
    If only the addition and subtraction are left then do them from left to right.

    1) they're no parenthesis nor exponents go to the multiplication 3x5=15.

    2) there's no division then do 22-15=7.

    3) then do 7+2=15.

    22-3x5+2
    22 -15+2
    7+2
    9
    The answer to 22-3x5+2=9.

  6. Conor got a concussion and forgot how to do PEMDAS.:( So I as a awesome brother taught him that PEMDAS is a short cut to remember the order of operations. To solve this problem you use PEMDAS in the right order. 22+3x5+2=?

    P= Parenthises
    E=exponents
    M=multiplucation left to right
    D=division
    A=addition left to right
    S=subtraction

    1 3x5=15

    2 22-15=7

    3 7+2=9

    4 the answer is 9

  8. Well pemdas stands for parentheses, exponents, multiply, division, addition, and subtraction.

    P= ()

    E= x2

    M= x

    D= /

    A= +

    S= -

    And that is PEMDAS.

    22-3x5+2=

    Step 1 22-3x5+2=

    Step 2 22-15+2=

    Step 3 22-17=

    Step 4 answer 5

  9. If someone was sick I would show them PEMDAS means parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. Multiplication and division always start from left to right. With addition and subtraction you go from left to right. Start with 3 x 5 which equals 15, then subtract 15 from 22 which equals 7. Add 7 + 2 and that equals 9. The answer to the problem is 9.

  10. if someone was sick this is how to do pemdas

    p= ()

    e = x2

    m= x left to right

    d=/

    a = + left to right

    s = -

    that is pamdas

    problem solving

    22-3x5+2

    22-15+2

  11. The problem is 22 - 3 x 5 + 2. FIRST thing to always remember is PEMDAS .

    Parenthesis
    Exponents
    Multiplication
    Division
    Addition
    Subtract

    When you look at the problem, there is no parenthesis. So you would go left to right. You would do multiplication first not exponents because there is know exponents. You would do 5 x 3 = 15 . Then you would do 15 - 22 = 7 . FINALLY, you got 7 + 2 and that equals 9 . SO the answer is 9.

  12. FYI: There are t instead of plus signs because my plus sign is broken. Sorry.
    To solve the equation 22-3x5t2 ? you have to know about PEMDAS. PEMDAS stands for Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction and this tells you the order you solve the operations in an equation that has more than one operation. For this equation there aren’t and parenthesis or exponents so we don’t have to deal with the P or the E. There is multiplication though so you would do the 3x5 first. The equation is now 22-15t2. Now you work from left to right to solve the equation.
    22-3x5t2
    22-15t2
    7t2
    The answer is 9.

  13. If someone in class was sick this is how I would teach them...
    P=() Parentheses
    E=x2 Exponents
    M=x Multiplication
    D=/ Division
    A=+ addition
    S=- Subtraction
    The problem is:
    22-3x5+2=
    When solving this problem look to see if there are any parentheses since that is first on your list of operations.
    If there are not any parentheses move on and go to exponents which is next in the list.
    Since there are none move on to multiplication.
    3x5=15
    Now the equation is
    22-15+2=
    Sice there are just addition and subtraction left you work from left to right.
    22-15+2=
    22-15=7
    7+2=
    9 Is your final answer

  14. Aspen Trala

    P= ( )
    E= 29
    M= x
    D= division
    A= +
    S= -

    22 – 3 x 5 + 2 =
    22 – 15 + 2 =
    22 – 17 =
    5

  15. First, you would start with PEMDAS, but there are no parentheses so you start with 3 x 5 = 15. And now you have - and +, so you work left to right. Now, you do 22 - 15 = 7. Finally, you end this with 7 + 2 and your answer is 9. And this is how you solve order of operations (PEMDAS). Sincerely, BS
