    Reading Report
    9/23/14

Hi I am Isabella. My class has to write a report. I’m writing about Harry Potter. The author is J.K. Rowling. I read the second book. The title of the second book is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The Harry Potter books are a series. It has eight books in the series. I’ve listened to the first book on cd and I read the second book.
The author of Harry Potter uses lots of dialog. That means lots of manners not any slang. Her writing is formal. Here is a quote that shows manners, “Please explain why you did this.’’ The author of Harry Potter writes about magic. Her topics are consistent. She also has written a supplement to the Harry Potter series. Fist one is the Fantastic Beasts and where to find them, the second is Quidditch through the ages, the last one is The Tales or Beeddle the Bard. She also wrote an adult book. The title of this book is, The Casual Vacancy. The Harry Potter books have mostly metaphors. An example, “rain drops are the size of bullets.” The author’s tone is mystery. I love the Harry Potter books! I recommend you to read the Harry Potter too!

  2. DELTORA QUEST book report
    DELTORA QUEST
    Dread Mountain
    By Emily Rodda

Dread Mountain is book five in series about an imaginary land called Deltora. In Deltora there was a place called Dell. Dell was ruled by a king with a special belt called the belt of Deltora which had very magical gems on it. Then one day the dreaded shadow lord sent seven birds out to destroy the palace and steal the gems of Deltoa and bring them to the most dreaded places in all of Deltora.
Three companions named Leaf, Barda and Gasmen are going to get them back. Gasmin has a bird named Kree who squawks when danger is ahead. In book five the three companions found the emerald but they had to fight Gellick the keeper of the stone. Gellick was a giant toad with poisonous ooze on its body that lived in Dread Mountain.

  3. Rick Riordan was the author of the book The Battle Of The Labyrinth. All of the book series was the same not all of them were based on the same thing. He used a type of slang, but also used formal language.“I will take you to the shop if you want to.” The book I am reading has a lot of action and monsters. The author’s tone is a little snobby and a kind of sentimental if you read this book before you read the others, you are NOT going to understand. I strongly recommend this book to Jacob.

  4. Judy Blume is the author of Are you there God? Its me, Margret. This story has a caring tone to it. Here are some examples of the tone the author uses “Thank you and she reminds me of how nobody lives forever and everything is for me.” Margret and her grandmother say. The author writes about four friends that are learning about each other people. They learn that people are not always as they may seem. Sometimes a person can behave rude, but that is not really how they are. And people that are your friends may not be as nice as you thought they were. It’s easy to go along and make fun of people that your friends have decided are different. Tiesha

  5. The book I am reading is A Series of Unfortunate Events , The Bad Beginning. Lemony Snicket is the author. He uses very formal language in her writing. She also uses definitions in her book and it helps me learn different words. Like the children that were moving in an aberrant, the word “aberrant’’ here means ‘very very wrong, and causing much Greif ‘direction. The book has a descriptive tone throughout the book. Most of the topics are about what happens to the characters. Also what they are feeling. I would read it again.

  6. For my book I read Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan uses allot of dialog for the book and I have a quote prepared for this and it is “Your already on probation.” Rick Riordan is very consistent with his topics, he almost always writes about the different kinds of mythology. Rick Riordan uses a lot of names in the books. Another book series he wrote is the Kane series wich has ancient Egyptions gods and goddesses. I love all the books and recommend them to you.

  7. I read a book called Are You There God? It’s Me, Margret., by Judy Blume. She uses a lot of dialogue in her writing. For example, “Now I’m going upstairs to get your dessert,” Mrs. Fishbein said, “and I expect you to behave like ladies and gentleman.”
She doesn’t really write on the same topic. She writes about topics for older kids. For younger kids, she writes silly stories. Some of her books are Freckle Juice, Tiger Eyes, It’s Not the End of the World, and Blubber.
In Are You There God? It’s Me Margret., she doesn’t use similes, metaphors, or onomatopoeia.
Her tone throughout the book is very caring. An example of this is, “My Margret!” Grandma threw her arms around me. I would really recommend this book for girls.

  9. I read the book Notes from the Dog. It was a really good book. The author is “Gary Paulsen.” He wrote a lot of other books like “The Hatchet”, “Dog Song” and “The Winter Room”. He used a lot of dialogue in the book. He used informal language like, “Dude what do you mean?”, “I staggered out of my bed, groggy from being up most of the night.” I liked the book because it was all about a boy and his dog. I also liked that he raised money for his friend Johanna. I recommend this book to anyone who loves animals.

  10. Margaret Peterson Haddix wrote a book called, The Missing: Found. She made a book that is the best book I have ever read. It has verbs, adjectives, and nouns! One onomatopoeia that was in the book was, “Never say you think a plane is going to crash!” When I first started to read it, I was amazed. I bet this is the best selling book ever. Margaret Peterson Haddix wrote one of the best selling books called, Among the Hidden. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in mysteries and dark stories.

  11. J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, uses very descriptive language: “ Hagrid who was ruby red in the face …” That meant he was embarrassed. As you can tell from that quote, Rowling is also very good at describing characteristics. One thing you can find in all of her books is how important friends are. Harry and his friends stick together to the end. I recommend this book to people who like fantasy and fiction.

  12. Hi, my name is Brenna. I’m reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by: Roald Dahl. I liked that he is funny and I strongly recommend reading this book. My book uses informal language. That means they will be talking silly in the story, such as, “Get a move on please, we will never get around today if you dawdle like this!” It is a quick read with 155 pages. You can read Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. All of these are books by Roald Dahl. He uses a lot of similes’ such as, “She is as blue as a blueberry!” Roald Dahl is very creative with his language. He is very funny and uses a lot of silly writing I would read all of his books! 13. Something Wicked’s in Those Woods
    By Marisa Montes

The story that I am reading is Something Wicked in Those Woods, by Marisa Montes. One of the characters, Niko, always says, “just like the woods.” Most of Marisa’s books are horror stories. Marisa’s tone is to make you scared. An example of her tone and onomatopoeia is, “Something was creaking behind the bushes”. I really like this book and I would recommend this book to others.

  14. I read All The Lovely Bad Ones by Mary Downing Hahn. There is formal and informal writing, but mostly informal. Mary Downing Hahn has written over twenty books, but she made eight ghost books! There is a little bit of every thing in the figurative language part. This book is mostly sentimental, but here and there it is a little bit snobby. For example, sentimental: It feels good to be out of the city. I never really liked it because the woods at Fox Hill are more mysterious. I think this book has a little piece of enjoyment for everyone!
